I have had two knee replacements in the last six months, both procedures performed by Mr. Hutchinson. On both occasions Mr. Hutchinson was kind, very understanding and patient.We established a good, easy rapport. He explained the procedures and the outcomes sensitively and in layman’s terms, answering any questions and allaying any doubts. I would happily seek Mr. Hutchinson’s professional expertise, if necessary, again.

From my first consultation with Mr Hutchinson I felt confident that I was in good hands. He was very honest about the treatment required and the expected outcome. Throughout my treatment I have found Mr Hutchinson to be very approachable with a great personality making the whole process a pleasant experience. When my 27-year-old artificial hip broke in January 2019, my GP initially referred me to a specialist in knee surgery. After obtaining a list of practitioners who specialise in hip surgery in Derby and Nottingham from my insurance company, I cross-referenced this list with the National Joint Registry. Jim Hutchinson came out top of this list. In mid-March 2019, I underwent surgery to replace my broken artificial hip - this was not entirely straightforward as I had had hip problems since birth. Only 5 weeks after my operation, I am pain-free, able to move my leg well and weight-bearing with two crutches. Already, I feel able to care for my family and home again as well as return to work. Jim Hutchinson is a very approachable, easy to talk to surgeon who is extremely talented. For the first time for as long as I can remember, my legs are pretty much the same length as each other - no mean feat. To put it simply, I cannot recommend Jim Hutchinson highly enough.

I am a very active 73 year old man and have now had both hips replaced by James Hutchinson in the space of the last twelve months. On both occasions the outcomes have been excellent and I would urge any future patient to beat a path to his door. Quite apart from his surgical skills he has inspired huge reassurance and confidence in every aspect of his treatment - my assessment, the procedure itself and the post op care. He is also an extremely nice man! Subsequent to each operation I can only describe the all important follow up physio care provided by the Nuffield as really first class. You could not wish for a better combination - James Hutchinson plus Nuffield Physio. We are lucky to have it.

I have just had my 12 month check up after my hip replacement last year and cannot believe how my life has changed thanks to the skills of Mr Hutchinson. I cannot thank him enough as I am now completely pain free and mobile once again. He is a credit to Derby hospitals and we are very fortunate to have him in the city.
